Lakeview vs. Cathedral — what's the difference?

Both are historic, but the vibe is different. Cathedral is artsy, bohemian, and centered around the retail strip on 13th Avenue. Lakeview is quieter, more exclusively residential, and features larger lots with a grand feel. If you want nightlife and shops, choose Cathedral. If you want quiet streets and proximity to the park, choose Lakeview.

What is the Hill Avenue shopping district?

One of Lakeview's most charming features is the commercial cluster located at Hill Avenue and Montague Street. Unlike big-box strip malls, this is a walkable collection of local businesses, including a grocery store, pharmacy, coffee shop, and dentist. It gives the neighbourhood a genuine small town vibe where residents gather and socialize.

What schools serve Lakeview?

Lakeview is renowned for its strong school community. It is home to the historic Lakeview School (Public), which is a designated heritage property, and the recently rebuilt St. Pius X School (Catholic). Both are located centrally, allowing the vast majority of neighbourhood children to walk to school under the canopy of mature elm trees.

How close is Lakeview to Wascana Park?

For many residents, Wascana Centre is effectively their front yard. The neighbourhood borders the creek and the park directly, meaning you can walk to the Legislative Building, the marina, or the loop around the lake in minutes. It is arguably the best location in the city for runners, cyclists, and nature lovers.
