McCarthy Park: questions, answered
These are neighbours divided by McCarthy Blvd. Walsh Acres (east of McCarthy) is slightly older (1970s) and features more bungalows. McCarthy Park (west of McCarthy) is slightly newer (1980s) and features more split-level homes. Both offer similar access to Rochdale amenities, but McCarthy Park is generally considered the slightly “newer” of the two established areas.
The neighbourhood is anchored by Centennial School (Public), which is located centrally on Sherwood Drive. For high school students, the location is unbeatable — both Winston Knoll Collegiate and Michael A. Riffel High School are located just across Rochdale Boulevard, making them an easy 10-minute walk for teenagers.
McCarthy Park residents have the best access to recreation in the North End. The North West Leisure Centre sits on the northern edge of the neighbourhood. This facility includes an indoor swimming pool, whirlpool, sauna, gymnasium, and ice arena, effectively serving as a massive community centre right on your doorstep.
McCarthy Park is often considered the “value leader” of the North West. Residents share the exact same amenities (Rochdale shopping, Leisure Centre, high schools) as the newer neighbourhoods like Lakeridge, but the homes here (mostly 1970s/80s builds) typically come at a more accessible price point with larger lots.
